As believers, we may quixotically receive God’s promises of grace and eternal life but tend to give less thought to our role in the New Covenant. This one-sided mentality is not entirely unreasonable. The whole covenant concept eludes us because a true example no longer exists in our modern society the way this relationship was once understood in ancient Middle Eastern cultures.
Our knowledge of God’s will, as recorded in Scripture is paramount to successful living and surety of the life to come. Our every act and word deal ramifications of eternal magnitude. Yet, many Christians rely on pastors or preachers for Bible commentary instead of reading and studying the Word for themselves.
How can the average Christian learn to minister effectively to other believers in times of personal crisis? To establish realistic and practical goals, we need to fully understand what ministry is.
