The cast included Wayne #2 as Lamed Emes, B.I., Natalie as Josephine Etsam, Wayne #1 as Isaiah and Jeroboam, son of Nebat, Danny as the prophets Samuel and Abijah, Al as Jacob and Ezekiel, Justin as Saul, Pastor Mike as Solomon, Daniel as Rehoboam, Emily as the wife of Jeroboam, Matthew and Taylor as Ephraim and Manasseh, and Aleah, Kathleen, and Madison as the Amalekite sheep. Everyone did a splendid job and looked great. (See photos in the Gallery) Wayne #2 courageously took on the line heavy challenge of the lead role and added new dimension to the Lamed character--complete with a London Fog trench coat and a Sherlock Holmes cap! As youthful as she is, Natalie holds her own on stage with an, ahem, more mature cast. She updates the Baby Boomer cast with a Generation Y attitude. And speaking of attitudes, Justin portrayed Saul with spunk that quickly morphed into meekness when Lamed reminded him of God's instructions for the Amalekites. Aleah, Kathleen, and Madison bleeted right on time. It's about time we got these little ones on stage! They've been to rehearsals and performances for 3 years now!. Wayne #1 continues to stretch the boundaries of his comfort zone. This script called for adventurous Wayne to sing AND appear in Drama Drash's first nude scene. Actually, Wayne #1 was wearing shorts, but the surrounding foliage rendered the illusion of Isaiah from the brief chapter 20. According to this passage, Isaiah actually prophecied unclothed as a sign of the impending captivity of Egypt and Cush. The other characters on stage had trouble keeping their faces straight against Al's scene stealing facial expressions and deathbed coughs. Danny as always is unpretentious on stage, bringing a humble quality to his characters. He's also a silent servent in the background, helping with props and scenery. Taylor and Matthew didn't flinch sharing the stage with dad (Al).This was Matthew's Drama Drash debut and he did great. So did big brother Taylor, a Drama Drash veteran on stage and behind the scenes. Daniel lent a laughable Napoleon Dynamite flavor to Rehoboam--complete with a Gameboy! Always first to learn her lines, Emily gave a little attitude to Jeroboam's wife. The interaction between her and Josephine was classic.
Special thanks to our helpers behind the scenes who never get to take any bows--Tina our stage manager who came up with many of the props, Malayna who took care of the lobby, Ashley, our shepherdess who herded the Amalekite sheep and coached then on stage, Ralph and Amber who committed the performance and rehearsals to video and a memory card. Ma Pastor Mike deserves another pat on the back for managing the sound board and recording the voice overs, Wayne #1 for taxiing cast members to and from rehearsals, and the rest of the cast for being so faithful to set up and strike the set. It takes dedicated participation from everyone to have a successful performance. After the show, we all went out to Braum's for a well-deserved ice cream cone. Other than that, this devoted, all-volunteer cast and crew won't see their rewards this side of heaven. May the Father richly bless them all. Our next performance is "Do This in Memory of Me" a dramatized Passover. The dramatic teaching will take place at 6PM on April 9, 2009 at St. Paul's United Methodist Church in Lawton, OK. |
