Revival of a Heavenly Drama

It's been a couple years since Drama Drash Ministries' first DVD, A Marriage Made in Heaven was released. Drama Drash administrators look at the project as not only a successful fund raiser, but more importantly as a vital message to the End Times Church. With the hour of our Bridegroom's return drawing nigh, we as a Body must prepare ourselves, to be of one mind and one heart and to set ourselves apart in holiness from the rest of the world. How do we accomplish that? By reviewing our role as a bride--no. not the modern bride of the 21st Century. After all, these days a marriage is a contractual arrangement that is to easily anulled. We don't want to base our relationship with Messiah on such a shaky foundation.

When the apostles composed the Bride of Christ analogy, and when God, Himself referred to His people in marriage terms, the reference was to ancient marriage customs. Back in the day, marriage was a covenant--an I'm-gonna-do-this-no-matter-what kind of committment that lasted for a lifetime. Each traditional stage to the marriage process is a prophetic forshadowing of our progression as the Bride of Christ. How does that translate into modern terms. What are the terms of our marriage covenant with Messiah? Why can't we be with Him now? What are we supposed to do until He returns? Those questions are addressed in A Marriage Made in Heaven, on stage or DVD.

Drama Drash Ministries was thrilled to be welcomed back to New Life Fellowship in Lawton, Oklahoma this July for a revival of the A Marriage Made in Heaven drama for the stage. New Lifers are old and loving friends of this drama ministry and fully support the Drama Drash vision and mission. New Life is a particularly loving congregation that always makes Drama Drash feel very special and it's always a treat to visit this fine congregation and their able shepherds, Dr. Robert and Alicia Dowell.

Reprising their film roles were Shirley as Narrator, Danny as Avi, Natalie, Malayna, and Emily as bridal attendants, Amber as Yisraela, the Bride, Pastor Mike as Elijah, Wayne #1 as Jacob, and Daniel as Joshua, the Bridegroom.

New to this performance was Nancy as the mother of Yisraela, in her Drama Drash debut. Aleah, Kathleen, and newcomer Ebony played bridal attendants. Wayne #2, Justin, and another Drama Drash newbie, Timonthy played the Friends of the Bridegroom.

A brief intermission followed the performance and the New Lifers went all out to provide a sumptuous snack. Afterwards, Shirley gave a teaching, explaining the terms of our marriage covenant with Jesus Messiah and how exactly we are to carry out those terms.

Do This in Memory of Me

jesus_meditates_at_the_last_supper.jpgMost Drama Drash projects tend to be tongue-in-cheek, in the hope of being entertaining enough to hold the audience attention. Drama Drash Ministries latest production, Do This in Memory of Me was a somber event, performed in Lawton, Oklahoma to a record-breaking crowd.

The performance took place on April 9, 2009, on the eve of the actual Passover and, Maunday Thursday, for many denominations. Pastor Terry Koehn and the congregation of St. Paul's United Methodist Church out did themselves, preparing the sanctuary for the dramatized Passover. The tables were beautifully set and carefully aligned so that everyone in the audience could see both the traditional Jewish Passover seder and a reenactment of the Last Supper. In fact, the response was so good, that the Pastor had to borrow tables and make a last minute run to the market for parsley and horseraddish! The message of this Drama Drash performance was to illustrate the similarities between the traditional Passover ceremony, called a seder, and the events of the Last Supper. Shirley acted as narrator, drawing attention to the parallel events.

The audience didn't just observe, but actually partook in the seder, tasting the bitter herbs, the sweet paste, grape juice, and the salt water. The kids even had a chance to search for the afikomen! What is an afikomen you may ask? It is half of a matzah, broke in two. It represents Jesus and like Him, it is wrapped and hidden during the seder. After the meal, the children were allowed to search the sanctuary for the afikomen with LOTS of prompting--you're cold, warm, WARMER, HOT! HOT! HOT! A yound lady found the prize and the seder leader redeemed the afikomen with a Passover activity book and a copy of the A Marriage Made in Heaven DVD for her folks.

What Our Audience Is Saying...

R. G. from Dallas, TX had this to say after seeing A Marriage Made in Heaven live on stage: After attending this prooduction, reading the New Testament without referencing the Old Testament will feel like a sentence fragment, like part of the message is missing. Searching the scriptures will take on a new meaning for me . . . I undertand more and more the value that God has placed on our relationship and it is much greater than I could ever imagine. He is a great and awesome God!

Of the new Marriage Made in Heaven DVD, K.H. of Goodlettsville, TN had this to say: What lovely faces! Everyone in the cast is glowing!

L.R. of Randlett, OK adds this profound commentary: I liked the way you used the [first century Judean] wedding customs to convey the truth that those who belong to Jesus are waiting for His return from heaven. May this truth be applied to many a heart.

Other comments include:

Lots of Trouble in the Citadel: The performance was exceptional! W.I., Lawton, OK

Ladies Man: Felt the Spirit of God in this place through drama, dancing, speaking parts. Loved the part of Mary. D.B. Lawton, OK

It was interesting how you kept the focus on Jesus without His being actually portrayed. L.R., Randlett, OK

Good actors and actresses. God bless your ministry! B.T., Lawton, OK

It was wonderful . . . Thank you for the insight . . . J.M.
